The Barnum Bomber girl’s softball team finished the season with only one blemish, a loss a few weeks ago to the Esko Eskomos. The regular season has now ended. In their final game of the season, the Bombers downed the Floodwood Polar Bears by a score of 6-3.

Barnum was looking to “finish strong before heading into the playoffs,” head coach Randy Myhre stated. “We played poorly against Esko but we have to be ready for sections.” Barnum was the Section 5A runner-up last season as thye lost twice to Maple Lake. Maple Lake went on to finish second in the girls state softball tournament last season and Barnum would like the chance to participate in it this season.

Jessica Newman led the Bombers with a 2-4 effort from the plate and
a home run. Newman also scored two runs and had 3 RBIs in the win. Emily Thomsen was 2-3 for Barnum. She also scored a run in the victory. Katrina Newman was the winning pitcher, pitching four innings of no hit ball.

Barnum finishes the regular season with a record of 13-1 and will head into sectional play as the number one seed from the eastern half of Section 5A. Floodwood falls to a final regular season record of 8-9. Floodwood will start Section 5A playoffs next week, facing Cook County on Tuesday.
