The Esko Eskomos dropped their first game of the season with a 12-2 loss to the Two Harbors Agates. But on Thursday the Eskomos responded back with great pitching and timely hitting as the Eskomos knocked off Polar League rival McGregor-Cromwell by a score of 10-0.

On a very cold and windy afternoon Thursday, it was Jared Mattson who pitched the Eskomos to their first win of the season. Mattson pitched all five innings, allowing only two Mercuries hits, while striking out five batters and not walking anyone.

Eskomos head coach Ben Haugen stated “we were fortunate to be the recipients of several walks and some wild pitches.” Haugen added “Mattson pitched very well for us today, he pounded the zone and our defense was very solid.”

Mattson also contributed in his own cause going 2-2 from the batters box while he scored two runs, and he also knocked in two runs in the Eskomos victory. Grant Johnson also added a hit, a run and a run batted in.

The Eskomos even their record at 1-1 on the season and they will be back in action again on Friday when they host Hibbing in a sectional battle at Esko. The newly combined programs of McGregor-Cromwell fall to 1-1 on the season and will play at Onamia on Friday.
