The Rebels of Moose Lake-Willow River made it four straight wins Tuesday afternoon as the Rebels knocked off Polar League Rival Barnum by a score of 9-4 at Moose Lake High School. The Rebels, with the win move to 4-1 on the season and improve to 3-0 in Polar League Conference play.


The Rebels and the Bombers battled away for seven innings in very cold and windy conditions. The Rebels and Bombers were each limited to only three hits for each team, but it was Moose Lake-Willow River that took advantage of ten walks given up by Barnum pitchers, which ultimately proved the difference in the game.


The Rebels jumped on the scoreboard first, plating two runs in the first inning and two again in the second inning. Moose Lake-Willow River added four more runs in the third inning and one in the fifth to close out their scoring on the afternoon. Barnum put one run across in the fifth and added three runs in the top of the seventh when the game had been all but decided.


Trevor Nummela was the winning pitcher for the Rebels as he went 6 1/3 innings, recorded 9 strikeouts while giving up 4 runs and only 3 hits. Nathan VanZee recorded the last two outs for Moose Lake-Willow River. Van Zee scored two runs and was credited with two RBI’s. Nummela, Ryan Adamczak and Jon Michalski had hits in the Rebels win.


Josh Hogan was the losing pitcher for the Bombers as he gave up 9 runs, although 6 of those runs were unearned runs. He finished with 6 strikeouts and walked ten batters. Hogan only allowed three hits in the game for the Bombers. Jacob Naslund, Rilea, and Donnie Saarela all had hits in the loss for Barnum.


The Rebels improve to 4-1 on the season and will be in action again on Tuesday when the will face the Carlton Bulldogs at Chub Lake Park Tuesday afternoon. The Bombers fall to 0-3 on the season and will face Carlton on Thursday at home in Barnum.
