The Grand Rapids Thunderhawks and the Cloquet Lumberjacks squared off in girls high school volleyball on Tuesday night in Cloquet with both teams sporting undefeated records.  The Thunderhawks proved to be too deep and too strong for the Jacks and Grand Rapids coasted to a 25-18, 25-18 and 25-20 win.

Grand Rapids, reached the state tournament in 2013 and had another big year last season when they recorded a 24-6 record and came up just short of another state tournament.
In the meantime Grand Rapids has beaten up local teams and have not lost to a team from northern Minnesota since back in 2012.  On Tuesday that trend continued as the Thunderhawks appeared to have the Lumberjacks scrambling to get into their offense at times.
Brianna Sutherland led the Thunderhawks at the net with eight kills and Taylor Fideldy chipped in with five kills for Grand Rapids.  Cloquet’s Kassidy Steen, who recently committed to play basketball in college at St. Cloud State, led her team with seven kills and Anna Hansmeyer recorded six kills.
Jessica Stone added 14-set assists for the Jacks, Callie Holm had 10 digs and Madison Schmitz finished with 10 set assists.
The Lumberjacks fall to 1-1 on the season
