The Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College women’s softball team garnered a split in their home opener on Friday against Vermilion Community College at Braun Park in Cloquet. Vermilion CC broke open a 2-2 game in the sixth inning and went on to an 8-3 first game victory.


The Thunder bounced back in the second game for a 7-6 win. The final run in the second game was scored by Rachel Sanda when she was knocked in by Casey Pierce of McGregor with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to break a 6-6 tie. Winning pitcher in the second game was Kalee Harp of Cromwell.


Day two of their home schedule the Thunder won a pair of conference games over Northland Community College on Saturday afternoon. The Thunder defeated Northland 9-5 in the opening game and 11-4 in the second game.


Katie Youngberg (Moose Lake-Willow River) pitched an eight hitter in the first game to pick up the win while Holly Nelson (Carlton) banged out three hits. Lisa Muehlberger (Duluth Central) picked up four rbi’s.


Game two saw Kassi Neary (Hill City) pitch a complete game while allowing only five hits. Muehlberger went 4-for-4 with four rbi’s while Anna Engelmeier (Hermantown) also went 4-for-4.


The Thunder improved to 6-5 on the season.
