Bulldogs Drop Heartbreaker

The Carlton Bulldogs traveled up the North Shore to take on the Silver Bay Mariners. The Bulldogs would fall in the bottom of the 7th inning, losing the heartbreaker 10-9.

The Bulldogs got out to a quick start, going up 2-0 in the top of the 2nd inning. The Mariners would answer in the 3rd inning however, scoring 4 runs to go up 4-2. The Mariners would score 5 more runs in the 4th inning off of zero hits to go up 9-2.

The Bulldogs would battle back in the 5th inning with a base hit by Nate Nilsen and a walk by Dominic Bennett. Thats when freshman Jackson Mickle stepped up to the plate and hit a 3 run home run to left center to cut into the Mariner lead, making it 9-5.

The Bulldogs would hold the Mariners and would continue to battle in the top of the 6th inning. The Bulldogs would score 2 runs off an error to make it 9-7. With a baserunner on 2nd, Mickle stepped back up to the plate with 2 outs in the inning. Mickle would once again hit a home run, this time a 2 run shot to tie it up at 9-9.

The Bulldogs wouldn’t be able to tack on another run, sending it into the bottom of the 7th inning tied at 9-9. The Mariners would get bases loaded after an intentional walk by the Bulldogs. Then in a 2-2 count, Nick Perfetto hit one right up the middle for the game winning hit to make it a 10-9 final.

Spencer Tiboni would be the winning pitcher for the Mariners, pitching one inning, allowing no hits and no runs and striking out one. Tiboni also went 2-4 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored in the win.

Sam Macor took the loss for the Bulldogs, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits, walking two and striking out one. Jackson Mickle went 2-4, with two home runs and 5 RBI’s in the loss. Josh Dallman and Nate Nilsen also recorded a hit a piece and an RBI.

The Bulldogs fall to 2-6 on the season and will look to bounce back when they play the McGregor Mercuries at home on April 30th. The Mariners improve to 2-8 on the year.
