Ashland Stops Hawks

The Ashland Oredockers rolled into Hermantown and handled the Hawks with a strong singles lineup, sweeping singles and winning the team portion 5-2.
All four singles matches finished in straight sets with wins for Ashland as Issac Hiner lost to Zach Whiting 6-1, 6-2 at first singles. Second singles saw Reid Johnson lose to Luke Sherry 6-1, 6-0. Third singles was a loss for Pranav Aggarwal to Porter Bellfuss 6-2, 6-1.
The final match of the day and the singles lineup saw number four Luke Hyjek fight hard for the Hawks before losing 6-3, 6-2 to Tobias Bar.
In doubles the first team for the Hawks made up of senior captains Sam Edgerton and Mason Mors were overthrown by Ashland seniors Mike Maple and Donnell Soulak 6-1, 6-0.
The second and third doubles teams were the lone wins for the Hawks as Joe DeFrance and Siji Gonzalez easily handled Tony Traaholt and Curt Holevatz 6-2, 6-0 at second and Logan Zierden and Devon Lenz dominated Eric Korpela and Erik VanHorn also by 6-2, 6-0 scores.
The Hawks head on the road for a match against section 7A rival Aitkin on Tuesday before going over to Superior Thursday and home again Friday for the big Cloquet tilt.
