Jacks Play Over Hibbing

In a match with section 7A seeding implications Cloquet eeked past Hibbing in a tight 4-3 boys tennis thriller in Hibbing Tuesday. CEC played tough at the top of their lineup while Hibbing was stronger in the deeper part.
First Singles saw a solid three set win from Lumberjack Robbie Sobczak over Scott Perunovich, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. His teammate Ryan Willgohs topped Anthoney Patregnani 6-3, 6-3 at second singles. Hibbing swept the remainder of the singles with Connie over Pertler in three 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 and Stark over Stevens 6-1, 6-4.

Hibbing also won at third doubles with Anderson and Sullivan over Matuszak and Tomhave 6-3, 6-2 but Cloquet took the higher matches to complete the team victory. Second doubles saw CEC’s Josh Kieth and Peter Tomhave take out Phil Rebrovich and Reese Blagoue 7-5, 6-2.

The deciding match saw Christian Prichett and Joseph Gotchnik take three sets from Jake Jolowsky and Jake Bestul 7-5, 3-6, 6-4  to seal the team win for the Lumberjacks.
