NSO – NEWS RELEASE

A two-mile stretch of right-of-way along U.S. Highway 53 near Canyon, Minn., now looks a whole lot tidier thanks to the cleanup efforts of nine volunteers from the University of Minnesota Duluth Athletic Department today.

That group, which included Bulldogs support staff as well as an athlete and head coach, spent the early afternoon collecting trash as part of the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Highway program. UMD Athletics has been an Adopt-A-Highway participant since 1999.

Lending their services were junior cross country and track runner Lauren Bruha, assistant athletic trainer Charla Buxbaum, equipment manager John Hanna, assistant athletic trainer Donnie Hermanson, associate director of sports medicine Suz Hoppe, assistant assistant athletic director for communications Bob Nygaard, assistant athletic trainer Jacqueline Phillips, assistant athletic director of compliance and camps Abbey Strong, and head women’s cross country and track coach Joanna Warmington.
