Both Hermantown and Duluth Marshall advanced in Section 7A boys playoff hockey on Thursday night. Hermantown advanced by downing Virginia/MIB 10-0 and Marshall moved into the semi finals with a 10-0 win over North Shore.

The Hawks got two goals from three different players on the way to their trouncing of the Blue Devils. Parker Hawke, Kyle Amundson and Cole Koepke all scored two goals as the undefeated Hawks rolled into round two of the playoffs. Hermantown recorded seven goals in the first period and had the Blue Devils reeling from the opening drop of the puck.

Also scoring for Hermantown were; Nate Pionk, Ryan Kero, Jesse Jaques and Jared Zeleznikar.

Duluth Marshall jumped on North Shore with three first period goals and pulled away with five goals in the second period to take an 8-0 lead entering the final period before securing the 10-zip win.

Peter Lenz led the Hilltoppers with a hat trick and he opened the scoring at 6:03 of the first period. That goal was followed by goals from Nate Johnson and Nathan Sepp to close out the opening stanza.

The second period saw the Hilltoppers get two goals from Jordan Fralich and John McKenna, while Levi Stauber chipped in with a goal as well.

In the third period it was Lenz scoring two more goals to close out the scoring and push Marshall into the semi finals.

Saturday’s semi finals will feature Hermantown playing Hibbing/Chisholm at 6pm at Amsoil Arena followed by Marshall taking on Duluth Denfeld. Hibbing/Chishom defeated Greenway in overtime on Thursday 5-4 and Denfeld downed Eveleth-Gilbert 3-0 also on Thursday.
