Cardinals Edge Mercs

In the regular season finale, the McGregor Mercuries hosted their Polar League rival, the Cromwell Cardinals, but would fall in a nailbitter, 61-55.

The Mercs led 33-32 at the half, but the Cardinals took over in the second half, outscoring the Mercs 29-22 to secure the victory.

The Cardinals were led by Tyler Randall who had 17 points, followed by Brandon Fairbanks who tallied 15, and Zion Smith who hit double digits with 11. Also scoring was Tyler Hakamaki with 7, Carter Karppinen with 6, and Austin Pfisthner topped it off with 5.

In the loss for the Mercuries, Carson Passer notched 17 points and Jordan Mickelson tallied 11. Auston Anderson and Billy Staska pitched in 8 a piece, Cole Gelhar scored 6, Johnny Huspek added 3, and Zach Hawkinson topped it off with 2.

The Cromwell Cardinals ended their regular season on an 8 game winning streak, making their record 15-9. They will match up with the 4th seeded Wrenshall Wrens on February 26th in Esko with a 5:45 tipoff. The Mercuries ended their regular season with a 8-17 record and will host the Silver Bay Mariners on February 24th in a play-in game.
