Lumberjack Boys Golf Team Competes at Wilderness

The Cloquet boys golf team played well at the Wilderness on Lake Vermillion, one of the best golf courses in the state of Minnesota. Twenty-six teams, including two from Canada, participated in the annual tournament.

The Lumberjacks would finish in 13th place overall in the tournament. The Hermantown Hawks “A” team captured the championship as they shot a team total of 299. International Falls was second at 305, Duluth Central third with a 316, Virginia “A” team
318, Ashland 321, Superior 322, Duluth East 326, Roseau 326, Duluth Denfeld 328, Hermantown “B” 329, Duluth Marshall 331, Grand Rapids 336, Eveleth-Gilbert 347, Dryden (Ontario) 349, Virginia “B” 353, Hibbing 354, Crosby-Ironton 356, Two Harbors 361, Mesabi East 362, Esko-Carlton 363, Fort Frances (Ontario) 370, Blackduck 371, BEST 374, Ely 380, and Cook with a 381 rounded out the scoring.

The Individual medalist was Duluth Marshall’s Joe Kozlak, shooting a tournament record of 69. Andrew Oakes of Hermantown was second with a round of 70. Third place
held a tie between Jerry Henderson of Ashland, Ben Wrazidlo of Duluth Central, Glenn Walls and Brett Musich, from International Falls; all shot a 75. Seventh place was a tie
with Alex Kolquist and Brett Ludwig of Hermantown and Rob Kraft from Superior all shooting 76. Tenth place was another tie with Evan Odean of Duluth East, Andy Krasaway from Hermantown and Travis Philipe of International Falls all shot 77.

Cloquet golfers would finish as follows: Andrew Castle would lead the Lumberjacks with an 81,

Derek Schrecengost shot an 84, Ryan Korby had an 88, Karl Palmquist would shoot an 89, and Evan Sheff finished with a 93. Cloquet will finish out the regular season this week in the final Lake Superior Conference meet at Nemadji.
