The #9 ranked Pequot Lakes Patriots handed the #4 ranked Esko Eskomos their first loss of season at home Monday night. It was a night of two big players stepping up for each team as Keely Deadrick notched a single game school record 36 points for the Eskomos while Emily Lueck matched the same total, becoming the Patriots all time leading scoring in the win.

Both teams battled tooth and nail in the first half as both teams fought for the advantage, it was Pequot jumping out a 25-21 edge before exploding for an 18-2 run leading to its 13-point halftime advantage at 47-34. Deadrick’s hot shooting kept the Eskomos within striking distance as she had 22 first half points.

“We are playing really well as a team right now,” Pequot head coach Jon Dale said. “It’s not just the seniors, but everyone is kind of meshing pretty well together. Even our younger kids are doing a nice job. I just think we’re playing well toward the end here.”

The Patriots shot the ball very well Monday night as they finished shooting 52% from the field, while holding Esko to shooting only 28% from the floor. They also hit on 50% of their three-point attempts, and their defense forced the normally ball protective fourth ranked Eskomos into 22 turnovers on the night.

The Eskomos had a run midway through the second half to narrow the lead but it was Lueck hitting a three pointer which not only ended the run for Esko, but it was the basket that broke the school record for scoring. Lueck has 1972 points on her career, with the 2000 point barrier just a game or two away.

Esko was led by Deadrick and her record setting 36 points, Savanna Trapp joined her in double figures with12 points, Marisa Shady finished with 6, Lydia Pelletier added 4 points, Megan Reuer, Bailey Mudek, and Brooke Schramm all finished with 2 points each.

Pequot Lakes was led by Emily Lueck and her 36 points, Kylie Beltz added 24, Mattie Lueck finished with 12, Kayla Wangen ended with 6, Kayla Miller added 4, Vanessa Lane, Kaycee Nelson, and Rachel Mott all ended with 2 points on the night.

The Eskomos, with their first loss of the season fall to an overall record of 18-1 on the season. They will be home on Thursday night when they face the Crosby-Ironton Rangers. The Patriots improve to 18-1 as well on the season and they are back in action on Thursday when they host Staples-Motley.
