It was another outstanding night for Jessica Newman and Katie Myhre as the Bombers knocked off the Carlton Bulldogs by a score of 83-37 at Carlton High School Monday night. The Bulldogs played it very close the first several minutes, but it was a late first half run of 23-2 that propelled the Bombers to their 20th win on the season.

Jessica Newman, the lone senior for the Bombers led the team with 23 points on the night, Myhre a junior for Barnum continued with her hot outside shooting, hitting six of seven three-pointer attempts
in the Bombers big Polar League Conference win. In Katie’s past three games she is averaging over eight three-pointers per game.

“She puts countless time in the gym shooting three pointers,” Head Coach Randy Myhre told Northland Sports Online about his daughter’s success from beyond the three point line. “She will shoot 500 three pointers, not just shoot 500, she has to make 500 in a day, that’s her goals.” With Myhre on a roll she seems to be in the zone shooting from the outside.

“She has been working hard on her wrist action and she is very comfortable right now.” Myhre added “When you’re comfortable it makes it even easier when you’re a shooter.” Asked about his tough end of the season schedule coming up Myhre stated “we have some big games we have to play here, we face Braham which is good enough to win the state Class AA title. We like playing those types of games because it exposes any weaknesses we may have and shows us what we need to work on before tournament time.”

The Bombers hit their stride midway through the first half as they cruised to a 53-27 point halftime lead. The Bombers continued to rolling the second half as they went on to the 46 point road win. The win moves the Bombers to an overall record of 20-1 on the season while the Bulldogs fall to 6-14 overall. Overall, Carlton Head Coach Lisa Johnson thought her team did some good things. “We did some good things tonight, especially in the first half. We are getting better and cutting down on mistakes.”

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Lindsey Dahl-Holm who finished with 17 points on the night. Alanna Groth added 10 points, Savanna Schramm chipped in with 8 points and it was Kayla Jackson rounding out the Bulldog scoring with 2.

Following Newman’s 23 points, Myhre finished with 22 points in the win, Jaiden Cofield and Daron

Mainville each added 11, Claire Rodgers finished with 10, Karianna Duesler finished with 3, Claudia Turner ended with 2, and it was Caitlyn Rodgers closing out the scoring with 1 point.

The Bombers are in action again on Thursday when the Bombers host Cromwell in a Polar League game. The Bulldogs are in action again on Thursday as well, hosting The Two Harbors Agates.
