The Hermantown Hawks ended their two game losing skid by beating Monticello/Annandale/Maple Lake 2-1 on Saturday at Hermantown Arena.

After starting the season as the states last unbeaten team, the Hawks lost back-to-back games to Cloquet-Esko-Carlton and Eden Prairie. Hermantown was looking to bounce back in a big way. While the score ended up 2-1, the Hawks got their much needed win in a game that they outshot the opposition 35-15.

The first goal of the game was scored by the Hawks Garrett Skrbich at 15:47. The goal was scored on the power play after Monticello’s Gage Torrel had taken a penalty for tripping. Jared Kolquist and Jake Zeleznikar added assists for the Hawks.

Monticello returned the favor in the second period when Blake Williams scored on the power play at the 4:06 mark with Dylan Nelson and Torrel assisting and the game entered the third period deadlocked at 1-1.

The lone goal of the third period came at 5:51 from Brian LeBlanc with Skrbich picking up the assist and that would be all the scoring the rest of the way.

Penalties marred the game, especially in the final two periods. Both teams took three penalties in the second period and Monticello hurt their chances with a couple of late penalties in the third period.

Connor Lucas finished with 14 saves on 15 shots for the Hawks, while Aaron Boros made 33 saves on 35 shots for Monticello.
