The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has named Yellowjacket junior Bri Davis (Hermantown, Minn.) as its women’s basketball athlete of the week for the week of January 17-23. Davis had a big week, helping the Yellowjackets to a split last week, including their first conference win of 2010-11.

“This is a tremendous honor for Bri and a testament to her development as a player here at UW-Superior,” Head Coach Don Mulhern said. “She has put in a lot of hours and a lot of hard work since arriving here and it is no accident that Bri has turned herself into a very solid, two-way basketball player for us. She’s having a tremendously consistent year and I am excited for her that other coaches in the WIAC recognized that. She definitely earned this award.”

Davis has indeed been a consistent offensive player throughout the year, and last week was no exception, as she averaged a “double-double” in two games. On Wednesday at UW-Stout, Davis scored 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, but the Yellowjackets came up short, falling 73-68 to the Blue Devils. On Saturday, Davis scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, helping the ‘Jackets go on a 13-0 run to end the game and come away with a 63-57 win over Platteville.

In addition to the 33 points and 25 rebounds, Davis also had three assists and four steals in 69 minutes played in the two contests.
