Superior Topples Hermantown

The Superior Spartans hosted the Hermantown Hawks on Tuesday night, toppling them 71-52.

The Spartans led by a slim margin at halftime, only up 28-24. The second half would be much different however, as the Spartans would outscore the Hawks 43-28 to grab the victory.

The Spartans were led by Alyssa Correll who scored 32 points, including six three pointers. Following Correll was Ellie Leadstrom who scored 11, Mackenzie Kmecik who tallied 7, Morgan Nordby and MaryLynne Leadstrom who each scored 5, Tailor Schuster who added 4, Elizabeth Kolanczyk who scored 3, Alayna Fender who pitched in 2, and Madison Newman and Natalie Olson who each scored 1.

In the loss for Hermantown, Mariah Rhanen scored a team high 15 points, followed by Shania Bolen who added 11 and Jordyn Thomas who hit double figures with 10. Also scoring in the loss was Taylor Vold who added 8 points, Kianna Hren who scored 4, and Taylor Schmidt and Alyssa Siljendahl who topped it off with 2 each.

The Superior Spartans improve to 4-4 on the season and will play the Cloquet Lumberjacks on January 13th on the road. The Hermantown Hawks fall to 7-6 on the year and will be back in action on January 13th when they host Ashland.
