Things got a feisty in the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls hockey game against Superior on Monday night in Cloquet.  The game, which saw the Jacks hold a three-goal lead at one point, ended in a 4-4 draw as well as some extracurricular activities by players of both teams on the rink in the final period.

Addie Young gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead at the 8:39 mark of the first period, but CEC stormed back with goals from Cassie Inman and Courtney Ketola to round out the first giving the Jacks a 2-1 edge.  Inman’s goal was scored at 11:43 with assists to Rose Lundquist and Rachel Macaulay and Ketola’s goal was assisted by Lexi Smalley and Kayla Baker.
CEC went up 3-1 at 2:59 of the second period on a goal by Smallie with Makayla Langenbrunner and Macaulay adding the assists and then at 12:44 it was a Baker power play goal from Macaulay that pushed the CEC lead to 4-1.  That’s when things got interesting as the Spartans answered the CEC scoring barrage with back-to-back goals at 15:32 and with nine seconds remaining in the second period to cut the Jacks gap to 4-3 entering the final period.
True to form the Spartans notched the tying goal at 10:05 of the final period when Alyssa Kolanczyk scored to make it 4-4.
CEC had the best chances to score in overtime, but they were unable to get a puck past Missy Walkowiak who finished with 21 saves.  CEC goalie Stacy Nelson finished with 29 saves for the game.
