CLOQUET – The surge of the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls hockey team continued on Thursday night with a 2-0 shutout win over the Duluth Northern Stars. The win was a continuation of a late-season streak that has pushed the team into the upper echelon of the sectional seedings.

After beating Grand Rapids/Greenway and Proctor-Hermantown-Marshall all in the past week, the Jacks continued their roll because of timely goals by Dalyce Gustafson and Kaitlyn Miller. Gustafson’s goal came at 7:06 of the first period with Callie Halvorson assisting and Millers came at 10:46 of the third period with Kara Cresap and Mackenzie Roy notching assists.

The Northern Stars hurt their own chances of a comeback in the first period with three straight trips to the penalty box including a penalty for checking from behind.

Neither team was able to score in the second period and both teams took one penalty.

Alyssa Acheson finished with a 28 save shutout for her second straight shutout and the Jacks defense was impressive again by not allowing Duluth to get their offense started.

The win is the fourth straight for the Jacks who move their record to 11-9-1 and lead the Lake Superior Conference with 6 points. Next up for the Lady Jacks will be a road trip to Isanti to take on the combined squad of Cambridge/Isanti/Mora/Pine City.
