CLOQUET- Saturday afternoon the Cloquet Lumberjacks hosted the Rangers of Crosby-Ironton in a non-conference contest and it was the Rangers coming away with the 51-33 win on the road. The loss, however disappointing as it was, was only a part of a special day at Cloquet High School with all participants of the Girl’s youth program ages Kindergarten thru sixth grade received participation medals for all of their hard work and effort.

The medal ceremony was one shining spot; the other was the pie and soda shoot out following the game to raise money for the basketball program in Cloquet. This event an annual event also was well received as fans, players and more all had a blast shooting for a prize.

The game between the Rangers and the Lumberjacks was a little different story as the visiting Rangers jumped out to and early 15-8 point lead. The Lumberjacks made a run midway through the first half to cut the Ranger lead to 15-13, but after that small run it was all Rangers as they closed out the first half in front 29-17.

The second half was much like the first as the Rangers continued to add to their lead, which at one point was twenty points. The Rangers, as a team shot amazing as they finished with a 51 % field goal percentage compared to only 29% for Cloquet. The Rangers also out rebounded Cloquet 28-21 and they shut down Annabel Morrisroe holding the senior to six points on the night.

Cloquet was led in scoring by Felicia Hraban, who finished with 12 points. Morrisroe was second with 6, Kenzie Rathe poured in 5 points, Krista Schmitz added 4, Sarah McMillen and Shania Paulson each ended with 3 points in the loss for Cloquet.
