Marshall Takes Two

The Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers had a weekend of hockey that may define their team early in the season as the Hilltoppers won a pair of games this weekend over two top ranked teams in the state.

Marshall kicked things off Friday night by shutting out Blake by a score of 5-0 at Mars Lakeview Arena. John McKenna scored two goals and added one assist in the shutout win. Marshal outshot the Bears 32-19 on the night while Alex Murray got the win in nets.

Derek Farrell had three assist for Marshall and other goals were scored by Jordan Fralich, Nate Johnson, and Carter Sullivan.

With a shut out win on Friday the Toppers then face the 8th ranked Orono Spartans and again the Hilltoppers controlled the action out shooting the Spartans by a 38-17 margin. Four Marshall players would tally goals in the win Nate Johnson, Levi Stauber, Derek Farrell, and Peter Lenz all scored in the victory.

Marshall improved to 5-0 on the season and they will play at Grand Rapids on Friday night, then travel up to International Falls on Saturday.
