CARLTON- Thursday night saw a bag of highs and lows for the Bulldogs of Carlton and in the end it was going to be an emotional high for Lindsey Dahl-Holm. Dahl-Holm scored with 13 seconds remaining to put Carlton in front by one and a last second shot by the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels just missed as the Bulldogs defeated the Rebels 49-48.

A game in which it saw both teams control the game from time to time saw Carlton come away with the one point Polar League conference win at home. The Bulldogs jumped out early as they scored the first eight points of the game to take an 8-0 lead before the Rebels could finally score. The Bulldogs used good ball movement and broke the Rebels pressure defense to hold a six point 23-17 lead at the end of the first half.

“It was an exciting game” Head Coach Lisa Johnson told Northland Sports Online, “both teams had chances and we made the last shot of the game.” Johnson added, “It wasn’t the prettiest game all year but we fought hard the girls battled all game long and when we fell behind late they didn’t quit.” Johnson also stated “we got ourselves into foul trouble and that hurt us, but they are a good team we played and it was a nice win.”

The Rebels responded to start the second half coming out and scoring the first seven points of the half to take a one point lead at 24-23, both teams traded baskets again, and it was the Bulldogs who then went on an 13-3 run to build up a lead that went as high as ten points twice late in the game.

Shaelyn Halverson sparked a late Rebel comeback with three second half three-pointers and a free throw off a technical foul to give the Rebels a one point lead. A free throw a minute later extended the lead to 48-46 in the Rebels favor. Taylor Klassen then made 1 of 2 free throws and Dahl-Holm scored with 13 seconds left to seal the Bulldogs victory.

Lindsey Dahl-Holm led the Bulldogs with 13 points on the night. Savanna Schramm added 12, Brooke Camps pitched in with 11, Alanna Groth had 6, Clarissa Nelson added 4, and rounding out the scoring with 3 points was Taylor Klassen.

The Rebels were led by Shaelyn Halverson who finished with a game high 14 points on the night. Maddy Adamczak added 10, Samantha Johnson scored 6, Adri Jusczak had 5, Alyssa Jusczak scored 4, Taylor Miller had 3, Olivia Bennett and Shelby Halverson each ended with 2 points.

The Bulldogs improve to 4-8 overall and they will host Cook on Tuesday night. The Rebels even their overall record to 6-6 and will be in action again Thursday when they host Esko.
