CLOQUET – Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boy’s hockey coach Dave Esse saw a team in trouble and rolling down hill fast on Tuesday night. The Jacks had just given up a power play goal midway through the first period and they trailed Hibbing/Chisholm 2-0. Esse called time out, reminded his players of the need to play with desperation, and the Jacks kicked things up a few gears and eventually skated away to a 4-3 win over the Blue Jackets.

Hibbing/Chisholm scored just :47 seconds into the game on a nifty give-and-go pass play that eventually found the stick of Joe Anderson. About five minutes later the Lumberjacks had a man sitting in the penalty box and Nick DeCenzo pumped in a goal on the power play for the Blue Jackets giving them a 2-0 edge. Enter Esse. The Jacks coaching staff called a time out after the DeCenzo goal and CEC began to pick up their play substantially.

With :49 seconds remaining in the first period Nolan Meyer snapped a shot past H/C goalie Nathan Tromp to cut the lead to 2-1 with Tanner Robideaux and Jack McFarlane picking up the assists. The Jacks weren’t done though as Jared Anderson found a loose puck to the side of Tromp and slammed it home with Karson Kuhlman and Adam Hanson assisting to tie the game.

CEC thoroughly dominated in the second period, but managed only one goal which came from Meyer with McFarlane and Ben Michaud garnering the assists.

Anderson managed to tie the game for the Blue Jackets on another power play goal just 1:30 into the third period and for a lengthy period of time it looked like the game may go into overtime. However, DeCenzo ended up taking a penalty that put CEC on the power play and eventually Kuhlman slipped the puck past Tromp with assists to Chaise Jokinen and Mark Savage giving the Jacks a 4-3 lead.

The Blue Jackets put on a bit of pressure towards the last few minutes of the game, but Scheuer and his mates were able to slam the door and take the win.

Scheuer finished with 22 saves on 25 shots, while Tromp made 40 saves on 44 shots.

The Jacks will be back in action on Thursday when they get their first good look at Amsoil Arena where they will take on Superior at 7:00pm
