Barnum Girls Win 35th Straight Game

BARNUM- Monday night saw the Barnum Bombers improve their regular season record to 14-0 overall as the host Bombers defeated the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels by a final score of 89-38. The win keeps the Bombers, Minnesota’s number one ranked team in Class A undefeated and it runs their unbeaten streak to 35 consecutive games.


Barnum started off Monday as they jumped out to an early 18-2 lead and never looked back, cruising to a 66-15 halftime lead. The Bombers scored the first eight points of the second half as the game went into running time. The win moves Barnum to 7-0 in Polar League conference play overall.


“We wanted to continue to play hard tonight.” Head Coach Randy Myhre told Northland Sports Online. “Saturday we played some of the best team basketball all year and we want to continue to get better game in and game out.” Myhre added “Defense wins championships and that’s what we stress, it’s what we work on every day in practice, and you see that in our girls and how hard they play defense.”


The Bombers used a well balanced scoring attack on Monday night with 11 players making their way into the scorebook. Jessica Newman paced the way with 22 points in the Bomber win. Daron Mainville added 20, Katie Myhre added 15 including three three-pointers on the night, Claire Rodgers and Claudia Turner each had 9 points, Karianna Duesler chipped in with 5, Jaiden Cofield had 4, Cheyanne Johnson added 3, and rounding out the scoring with 2 was Lissa Warpula.


ML-WR was led by Shelby Halverson who finished with 10 points on the night for the Rebels. Shaeyln Halverson had 7, Maddy Adamczak contributed 6, Samantha Johnson scored 5 points, Adri Jusczak scored 4, Julianna Coil, Katie Ring, and Alyssa Jusczak all finished with 2 points in the Rebels loss.


The Bombers again move to 14-0 on the season, they are off until next Monday night when the face Northland at Reamer High School. The Rebels fall to 5-6 overall on the season and they are in action again on Tuesday night when they travel to Proctor to take on the Rails in this section match-up.
