When three point shooters have their shot dialed in it can be a thing of beauty. Such was the case Saturday when Katie Myhre hit a total of seven baskets from beyond the arc to lead the Barnum Bombers to a 77-43 victory over New Life Academy. In doing so Myhre also reached the elusive 1000 career points plateau in only her junior year.

These two schools renewed this young but tough rivalry as Barnum bounced back after being knocked off in the state softball championship game to New Life Academy to many of these same players.

The #1 state ranked Bombers opened up a 47-28 first half lead. Barnum added 30 second half points and with a great defensive effort held NLA to only 15 points in the second stanza for the home victory.

“This was a great team win for us.” Head Coach Randy Myhre told Northland Sports Online. “New Life has one of the best players in the state in the post (Cara Lutes) and they have a great guard on the perimeter also.” The guard he was referring to was Rebekah Schmidt.

“To defend the kind of offensive punch those two takes great defenders and great help defense.” Myhre added. “We got great contributions from our starting five, and our bench played well as normal.” Myhre went on to say “We shot the ball pretty well and that always makes a big difference when you are playing against a zone defense.”

Besides Myhre’s lights out shooting which led all scorers with 25 points, Barnum got a double digit effort point from Jess Newman and Daron Mainville with 17 and 16 points respectively. Others scoring for the Bombers were Jaiden Cofield and Caitlan Rodgers with 6 points each, Claire Rodgers 3, Megan Nelson 2, and Claudia Turner with 2 points while running the Bomber offense.

Lutes led New Life Academy with 21 points in a losing effort.

With the win Barnum is now a perfect 13-0 on the season. They will be back in action on Monday evening when they host the ML-WR Lady Rebels.
