CLOQUET – At times during Cloquet-Esko-Carlton’s boys hockey game against St. Francis last night you had to wonder how bored CEC goalie John Scheuer was. The Jacks so dominated the Saints, in their 6-0 win, that Scheuer was probably looking for ways to stay awake.

The Jacks got the hat trick from Jack McFarlane and a pair of goals in the win from Nolan Meyer, but the key to this game was the thorough domination by CEC from start to finish by every single line and defensive pair grouping.

McFarlane and Ben Michaud teamed up with Meyer just 3:12 into the game to give the Jacks a 1-0 lead on a pretty tic-tac-toe passing type of play. At that point of the game the shot clock was nearly dead even, but that’s when things started to change. Over the next 10 minutes CEC attacked the Saints in their zone. While CEC wasn’t putting tons of shots on Saints netminder Mitchell Zebro they were compiling more riding time than a jockey in the Kentucky Derby. The Jacks also added a second goal in the period when Ben Michaud tapped in a score on assists from Chaise Jokinen and McFarlane.

Second period action saw more of the same as CEC pumped in three more goals to go up 5-0. Just 19 seconds into the period McFarlane finished off another pretty play that was set up by cousins Beau and Ben Michaud on the power play. At 2:40 it was Meyer scoring from Ben Michaud and McFarlane and then that same trio reversed roles when Meyer scored at 12:36.

Hitting picked up by the Saints in the final period, but the only goal of the period came from McFarlane with Max Reinertson and Ben Michaud assisting at 11:30 as the game entered running time.

For the game McFarlane score three goals and added three assists as he figured in on every goal for the Jacks. Ben Michaud had a stellar night again by finishing with a goal and five assists and also was part of every goal scored. Meyer added two goals and an assist.

Scheuer finished with 14 saves and the shutout. Saints goalie, Zebro, faced 35 shots and made 26 saves.
