NSO – NEWS RELEASE

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women’s soccer team used three first half goals and four second half goals to down Northland College by a final score of 7-0 in UMAC semifinal action Wednesday afternoon at Saints Field.

CSS scored early and often in the first half scoring all of their goals in the first 15 minutes of the half. First Taylor Rozmark (Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS ) got the Saints on the board putting the ball past LumberJill goaltender Emily Romauld just 8:24 into the game putting the Saints up 1-0 with Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) getting credited for the assist.

The next two goals for the Saints came just 1:19 apart from each other with both of them being scored by Kehtel. First, Kehtel used a pass from Jalyn Britton (Eagan, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) to beat Romauld at the 12:46 mark to put CSS up 2-0, then at the 14:05 mark scored the last goal of the half for the Saints putting them up 3-0 this time scoring it unassisted.

The second half saw the same dominating play out of the Saints. Rozmark put home her second goal of the game just 8:44 into the second half making the score 4-0 in favor of the Saints.

The second two goals of the half, much like the first half, came relatively closely to one another for the Saints. First Kehtel took a pass from Casey Mitchell (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) and chipped it past Romauld for her third goal of the game making the score 5-0. Then just 7:34 later Angie Toepper (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) got into the mix adding to the lead and scoring just her second goal of the season with Karen Kersting (Winona, Minn./Cotter HS ) getting the assist.

With the score 6-0 and in the last ten minutes of the game Taylor Kunkel (Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls HS ) scored her first goal of the season on Britton’s second assist of the game at the 80:07 mark in the match setting the final score at CSS 7 Northland 0.

Kehtel’s hat trick increased her UMAC lead in goals to 22 on the season distancing herself from Madeleine Wieland of Northland who was held scoreless in the match. For Kehtel, this marks her fourth straight season with at least 20 goals, becoming the first St. Scholastica soccer player (male/female) to accomplish such feat.

CSS (14-6-1, 13-0-1 UMAC) will play the University of Minnesota Morris in the UMAC championship match this Saturday at 2 p.m. at home at Saints Field. Come see the Saints attempt to win their fourth consecutive conference championship or catch all the action live at Saints Sports Net.
