Bulldogs fall in Quarterfinals

The Carlton Bulldogs fell to Mayer Lutheran in the girls state quarterfinals Thursday at the Xcell Energy Center in St. Paul. The Crusaders won the match 3 sets to 1. The Crusaders and the Bulldogs battled back and forth in the first two sets but the Crusaders took a 2-0 lead before Carlton won the third set 25-21.

The Bulldogs were hoping they had the momentum as they moved into the fourth set but that wasn’t to be as Mayer Lutheran opened an 9-3 lead and the Bulldogs could never get any closer then four points before falling 25-17 in the last set.

The first two sets of the match were back and forth battles with both teams having small leads and momentum going both ways. The Bulldogs in the first set led four time and the last tie was at 20-20 but the Bulldogs saw the Crusaders pull away for the 25-22 win in the first set.

The second set much like the first so both teams making small runs and there were four lead changes, Carlton led late in the second set by a score of 18-15, their largest lead on the set but Joelle Grimsely took a time out for Mayer Lutheran who then went on a 5-0 to take the lead for good as they won 25-21.
