Hermantown Picks Up Big Section Win at Home

The Hermantown Hawks picked up a huge sectional win Thursday night as they Hawks defeated the Hibbing Bluejackets by a score of 71-56. The win was the fourth straight win for Hermantown after starting the season at 3-3.


Rachel Hoium was the big gun for Hermantown Thursday night as the junior guard lit up the scoreboard for 23 points in the sectional win for Hermantown. The win moves the Hawks into a tie for second place in the sectional standings with a record of 2-1. Grand Rapids lead the section standings with a 3-1 sectional record.


Following Hoium and her 23 points on the night was Mary Neumann, who poured in 14 points. Ally Dieryck added 10 points, Carman Bergstedt chipped in with 9, Emily Neumann added 6, Andrea Enockson scored 5, and rounding out the Hermantown scoring was Nicole Kucza who closed out with 4 points in the Hermantown win.


The Bluejackets were led by Hailey Smith, who finished with 16 points in the Hibbing loss. Melissa Weisbrick and Kayla Swanson each finished with 11 points for the Bluejackets. Kristy Ruberg scored 7, Katie McLaughlin added 5, Rachel Miesbauer ended with 4, and rounding out the Hibbing scoring was Erin Jamar who had 2 points.


With the Thursday night win, the Hawks improve to 7-3 on the season. They are back in action Friday night when they host the Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers. Hibbing falls to 7-4 and they will play at home next Tuesday against Duluth Central.
