Over the past decade the top two local Class A boys hockey teams have been Hermantown and Duluth Marshall on a consistent basis. Tuesday night the Hawks proved that this season they are the muscle team by throttling the Hilltoppers 7-2 in a game that saw Hermantown outshoot Duluth Marshall 42-23.

Garrett Skrbich scored a pair of first period goals and Jared Thomas added one tally in the period and the Hawks raced out to a 3-0 lead.

Travis Koepke made it 4-0 at 2:17 of the second period and Benson Kolquist pushed the lead to 5-0 at 8:58 of the second for Hermantown before the Hilltoppers came alive. Davis Grannis and Judd Peterson scored at 12:08 and 15:25 respectively for Duluth Marshall to cut into the lead and make it 5-2 entering the final period. Peterson’s goal was a power play goal assisted by Mac Dow and Jordan Shockley.

Much as in the first period the third period was all Hermantown. The Hawks picked up goals from Billy Grillo and Chris Benson and also spent much of the period in the Marshall zone in cruising to the victory.

With the win the #5 ranked Hawks remain unbeaten on the season at 10-0-1. They will be back in action when they host International Falls at 3:00pm on Saturday.
