Clydesdales Win 7-5 For Second Win In As Many Days

The Duluth Clydesdales stayed perfect in the New Year, winning an offensive battle with the Thunder Bay North Stars 7-5. With the win, the Clydesdales move into fifth place in the Superior International Junior Hockey League Superior International Junior Hockey League.


Thunder Bay broke the scoring open just 4:21 into the game with Mitch Forbes putting it home with an assist going to Isaac Howarth. Jacob Ransom answered back for Duluth a little over two minutes later at 6:44. Thunder Bay went up again at 13:33 on a power play tally by Riley Marsh, only to have Tom Paine even it back up within a minute and a half at 15:01, sending the teams to the first intermission tied 2-2.


Thunder Bay would take the lead once again in the second, with a Sam Dubinsky goal at 4:28. Once again, Duluth tied the game back up, with Dillon Mershon putting one home at 11:06. Thunder Bay would end up taking a 4-3 lead into the second break after Daniel Franks scored on the man advantage with 2:32 left in the second.


However the Clydesdales couldn’t be contained, with Joe Nelson scoring on the power play just :17 into the 3rd and Julius Tamasy giving Duluth the lead at 2:41. Colten Brule evened it at 5 on a penalty shot goal at 6:02, but that would be the last of the scoring for the North Stars. Duluth finalized the scoring and sealed the game with two more man advantage goals by Nelson at 9:30 and Dusek at the10:16 mark halfway through the period.


Cody Stocker turned away 35 for his second win in as many nights, and Jay Pelletier stopped 25 of 32 in the North Star loss. With a goal and 3 assists, Tamasy was named first star of the game, Nelson second star with the two power play goals and an assist, and Ransom took home third honors with his goal and assist on the night.


With the win Duluth moves past Sioux Lookout and into sole possession of fifth place in the Superior International Junior Hockey League. Now at 9-23-2, the Clydesdales look ahead to a matchup with the Wisconsin Wilderness Wednesday night in Spooner at 7:00 pm.
