The Proctor-Hermantown-Marshall girls hockey team played in the Burnsville Holiday Tournament and came away with some pretty good results. After winning the first two games against Owatonna and Bloomington –Jefferson the Mirage were beaten by the Burnsville Blaze, who proved to be unfriendly hosts, blanking PHM by a score of 5-0.

Coming off the successful tournament trip the Mirage will be part of history when they Make a much shorter trip to take on the Duluth Stars in the first ever high school hockey game at the new Amsoil Arena on Monday. The Mirage and Stars get things started at 5:30pm. The nightcap game will feature another pair of Duluth teams when Duluth East takes on the Denfeld-Central Trojans at 7:30pm. The first game of the tourney saw the Mirage go up against Owatonna and come away with a 3-2 win. PHM built a 3-0 lead on goals by Reilly Fawcett, Abby Miner, and Nicole Mathews, in the first two periods. After giving up two goals to the Huskies in the middle of the third period, PHM held on for the 3-2 victory. Senior netminder Anya Morris made 33 stops on 35 shots for the win.

To pick up their second tournament win in as many days, PHM used a three goal third period to break a 1-1 tie and beat Bloomington-Jefferson by a score of 4-2.

Kylie Earl got the scoring started with a goal at 9:08 of the second period to put the Jaguars up 1-0. Earl’s efforts were matched by Emy Albert, scoring at the 14:00 minute mark for PHM to tie the game at 1-1 after two periods. Emma Stauber exploded scoring the first two goals of the third period, giving the Mirage a 3-1 lead. Grace Mandich scored for the Jaguars to cut the lead to 3-2. Albert then added an insurance goal at 15:40 to secure the victory for the Mirage.

PHM’s luck ran out in the third game when they ran into a buzz saw in the form of the Host Burnsville Blaze. A goal at just nine seconds in and another toward the end of the first period put the Mirage in a 2-0 hole after one period. Although doubling up the Blaze 12-6 on the shot clock in the second period, PHM was unable to score and left for the locker room down by the same 2-0 score after two. Things would not end well for the Mirage when Burnsville came out firing in the third period. The Blaze opened up the game with three goals while outshooting PHM 16-5 to secure the 5-0 win and go undefeated in their home tournament.
