Playing in the first ever high school hockey game at the new Amsoil Arena, the Duluth Northern Stars scored goals in the second and third period then held off a five on three Proctor-Hermantown-Marshall power play at the end to come away with a 2-1 win.

Stellar goaltending at both ends of the ice prevented the first goal from being scored until the 10:42 mark of the second period. That honor went to Ailee Norton, who with her first tally of the season, carved her name in the record books for scoring the first high school goal in the facility. Norton jumped on a loose puck in front of the net, which then found its way through traffic and into the back of the net. Assisting on the goal were Taylor Armstrong and Ashley Hansen.

The Mirage evened the score at one apiece Emma Stauber scored her 10th goal of the season on the power play with an assist from Nicole Mathews. The tie score held up until Alexia Klaas scored to give the Stars a 2-1 lead. Penalties in the final two minutes put the Mirage on the power play with a five on three advantage. Despite several quality shots PHM could not capitalize on the opportunity with the game ending by a 2-1 score in favor of Duluth.

Anya Morris made 20 saves on 22 parts while Megan Hanson stopped all but one of the 34 shots she faced.
