Volleyball recap for Thursday October 9th 2014

In a Lake Superior Conference contest it was the Marshall Hilltoppers coming back from being down 2-1 to best the Proctor Rails. Duluth Marshall won the fifth and deciding game 15-9. Kate Kleinschmidt  had 12 kills, 13 digs and she also had 2 ace serves. The Rails Katy Anderson`finished with 8 kills, 9 digs and she had 3 ace serves.

The Esko Eskomos beat the Silver Bay Mariners in three straight matches 25-15, 25-22, 25-14 as they picked up their second consecutive conference victory. The Eskomos improved to 11-9 on the season as they prepare for a huge volleyball tournament in Esko on Saturday with several of the top teams in the area competing.

The Floodwood Polar Bears swept the Barnum Bomber in three straight matches Thursday night in Barnum as the Polar Bears improve to 7-17 on the season. The Bombers struggles continue as they fall to 2-19. Floodwood won 25-21, 25-22 and the third match of the set it was the Polar Bears winning 25-12 for the sweep.

Cook County picked up a three game sweep Thursday night over the McGregor Mercuries in McGregor in a Polar League Conference battle. The Vikings defeated Mercuries by scores of 25-21, 25-14, and 25-20. Meredith Sutton had 9 digs and 7 kills for the Vikings, and Elle Baker had 8 digs and 6 kills for McGregor.

The Carlton Bulldogs continued with their dominance on the volleyball court this fall as they Bulldogs swept the Hermantown Hawks Thursday night in Carlton. Grace Macor paced the Bulldogs with 16 kills and 8 block shots. The Hawks Jordyn Thomas finished with 11 set assists.

The Cloquet Lumberjacks topped the Superior Spartans in Lake Superior Conference action Thursday as they continued the trend of sweeping their opponents around the northland Thursday night. The Jacks won 25-11, 25-18, and 25-16. Sami Westendorf had 16 set assists, 14 digs, and 5 kills for Cloquet, while Nicole Sorenson ended with 10 set assist for the Spartans.
