Section 7A & 7AA Boys Soccer Recap

In the first round of Section 7A and 7AA Boys playoffs, there were a lot of close match-ups.

In 7A, the CEC Lumberjacks and North Branch Vikings battled to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. With no scoring taking place in the overtime, they went to a shootout, in which CEC topped North Branch 4-2 in to secure their spot in the next round. Joe Christiansen scored the lone goal for the Lumberjacks in regulation.

Also in 7A, Duluth Marshall toppled the Princeton Tigers by a lopsided score 0f 5-0. Peter Lenz, Cole Bradshaw, and Jack Dodd all scored in the 1st half to give them the 3-0 lead going into half. In the second half, Payton Rengel scored and Dodd netted his second goal of the game to put the final score at 5-0.

The Proctor Rails edged the Duluth Denfeld Hunters, 2-1, in overtime. Duluth Denfeld got on the board first when Ben Scrignoli scored at the 52nd minute. A late goal from Proctor’s Nathan Carlson sent the game into overtime where Taylor Ringdahl scored the game winning at the 97th minute to put Proctor into the next round.

Also winning in Section 7A was Hermantown over North Lakes Academy 19-0, Big Lake over Mesabi East Area 3-0, and Grand Rapids topping Hibbing/Chisholm 2-1, which sets up the next round match ups on Saturday. No. 3 seed Hermantown Hawks will play the No. 11 Proctor Rails at home at 2PM. No. 7 Duluth Marshall will travel to play No. 2 Monticello at 11am, No. 5 CEC travels to play Big Lake with the game starting at 2PM, and No. 8 Grand Rapids travels to play No. 1 Chisago Lakes at 12PM.

In Section 7AA, Duluth East squeaked by Forest Lake 1-0. Darby Henderson scored the winning goal at the 29th minute to propel the Greyhounds into the Semifinals of the Section 7AA playoffs.

Also winning in Section 7AA was Blaine beating  Cambridge/Isanti 4-0, Centennial topped St. Francis 8-0, and Andover beat Coon Rapids 2-1. No. 3 Blaine will play No. 2 Centennial at 1PM and No. 4 Duluth East will travel to play No. 1 Andover at 1PM on Saturday.
