Saints Shut out Luther

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica women’s soccer (6-5, 6-0 UMAC) defeated Martin Luther College (4-5, 3-2 UMAC) 2-0 Friday afternoon at Saints Field to remain perfect in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play.

KEHTEL,KELSEYThe Saints jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage against Martin Luther when Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) netted her eighth goal of the season in the eighth minute of the game. In the 29th minute St. Scholastica would double its lead when Kate Burley (Nowthen, Minn./St. Francis HS ) perfectly headed home a Kehtel feed. The goal was Burley’s first of the season.BURLEY,KATE

CSS controlled possession for much of the first and firing 10 shots and winning five corner kicks while the Knights didn’t manage a corner or a shot in the half.

No goals were scored in the second half of the game. St. Scholastica continued to dominate possession and create chances but couldn’t extend its lead. Jalyn Britton (Eagan, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) picked up her UMAC and team leading eighth assist of the season.

Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ) got her fifth shutout of the season, which leads UMAC goalkeepers, without having to make a save. The Saints have won their last six games, all UMAC opponents, without surrendering a single goal.

Martin Luther College just couldn’t get going offensively as they were unable to record a shot or corner kick in the game. Knight’s goalkeeper Keely Keese made seven saves in the contest.

The Saints play the University of Minnesota-Morris on Saturday at 12 p.m.
