Thunder Wash Away Norsemen

The Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College picked up a huge victory Thursday night in a MCAC Conference match up over Mesabi Range by a 32-21 margin to even their season record at 3-3 and move to 2-2 in Northern Division play.

On a wet, windy night in Superior the Thunder came into the game planning to run the football and they did that in the second half pounding the ball down the field courtesy of Willie Lynch who finished with 90 yards rushing on 15 carries and he scored the game winning touchdown with 7 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

Tyrone Woods opened the Thunder scoring with a 50 yard punt return to put the Thunder in front 6-0. Travis Brown threw the first of his two touchdown passes on the night as he hit Damon Barnes on a 16 yard pass to put the Thunder in front 14-0 after one quarter.

Two Thunder turnovers led to 14 quick second quarter points Thursday night for the Norsemen as they tied the game at 14-14. Brown however connected with Woods on a 30 yard touchdown pass to give the Thunder a 20-14 lead at the break.

The Norsemen took the lead at 21-20 when they returned their second interception of the game for a touchdown this time is was a 95 yard interception return for the score. Following Lynch’s run to retake the lead, Witterson Brutus extended the Thunder lead to 32-21 on the Thunders own interception return for a score.
