ESKO – The Esko Eskomos won the championship game of the 31st annual Esko Coaches Classic tournament Saturday evening at Esko High School by beating Polar Bears of Floodwood by a score of 64-37. The win keeps the Eskomos perfect on the season with a record of 6-0.


Keely Deadrick entered the tournament with 960 career points, and after scoring 33 against Warroad the night before needed just seven points to hit the 1000 point milestone. Deadrick reached the 1000 point plateau early in the game by
scoring seven of Esko’s first eight points.
Deadrick led Esko with 23 points on the night to bring her total to 1016. In addition she was named tournament MVP for the second straight year.


Esko started out strong, building a 32 to 18 lead and cruised to the 27 point 64-37 win over the Polar Bears. Besides the Eskomos, Floodwood’s other opponent may have been their own schedule, which saw them play 5 games in the last eight days and appear to wear them down a bit.


In addition to Deadrick’s 23 points she added 10 rebounds and 5 steals on the evening. Savannah Trapp also had a fantastic game contributing 16 points, 12 blocked shots and 8 rebounds finishing just shy of a triple double. Joining Deadrick and Trapp in double figures was Marisa Shady with 11 points. Others scoring for Esko were Megan Reuer with 6 points, Alyson Glumac with 4 points, Lydia Pelletier added 3, and Steph Bandelin rounded out the scoring with 1 point. Floodwood was led by Molli Durovec and Maija Rauvola with 14 and 12 points respectively.


In the earlier game Hermantown rebounded from a loss to Floodwood in a big way be beating Warroad by a score of 60-37. The Hawks jumped out to a 43-19 halftime lead, then maintained it throughout the second half to claim the 60-37 win. Rachael Hoium and Mary Neumann hit double figures to lead the Hawks, Hoium with 13 and Neumann with 12 points. Sadie Stoskopf paced the Warriors with 11 points.


Joining Deadrick on the All-Tournament team was fellow teammate Trapp and sophomore point guard Shady, Floodwood standouts Alissa Autio and Rauvola along with Neumann from Hermantown.
