Esko and Floodwood Win In Coaches Classic

ESKO – Friday’s opening day action of the Esko Coaches Classic saw the host Eskomos and Floodwood Polar Bears come away with big wins and move to Saturday’s championship round. Behind Keely Deadrick’s huge 33 point game, the Eskomos defeated Warroad by a score of 78-56. Floodwood advanced by beating Hermantown 55-43.

Deadrick scored 21 of her 33 points in the first half to help Esko take control early and send the Eskomos into the locker room with a 40-24 lead at halftime.

Savannah Trapp also turned in a superb low post game for the Eskomos, finishing with 21 points on the night. Besides her points, Trapp’s presence in the low post changed the game a bit with Trapp recording seven blocked shots and seven rebounds as well.

Other helping out in the Eskomo victory were Marisa Shady, who scored 8 points while running the offense. Lydia Pelletier and Megan Reuer scored 4 points apiece, while Steph Bandelin, Danielle Salo, Brooke Schramm, and Kallyn Knutson all ended with 2 points on the evening.

In early game action Floodwood secured its spot in the finals by topping Hermantown 55-44. The Polar Bears opened up a five point 23-18 halftime lead to win by 11.

The Polar Bears had four players hit double figures in the contest. Alissa Autio led the way with 14 points. Molli Durovec scored 12, while Shawna Behrendt and Maija Rauvola added 10 points each to the cause. Rachel Hoium led the Hawks, scoring 12 points in the loss.

The Championship game of the tournament between Esko and Floodwood is slated for 5:45pm and should be a dandy. It is a re-match of Esko’s home opener, which was a back and forth affair that the Eskomos won 59-58 in overtime.

The consolation game between Hermantown and Warroad will take place at 4:00pm in Esko.
