The Lady Bombers continued to roll Tuesday night as Barnum beat their second straight opponent rated in the state’s top ten polls. The #10 ranked Floodwood Polar Bears lost to Barnum by a final score of 65-52. Floodwood had defeated #8 state ranked Fulda on Saturday, but the Bombers once again proved their number one state ranking isn’t a fluke by defeating another strong opponent.

“We play a tough schedule” Head Coach Randy Myhre had told Northland Sports Online. “The way we get better is by playing the best teams we can, that’s why we have a difficult and very tough schedule.” Myhre added “we are not resting on last year, we have goals for this year’s team and we have a strong tradition here at Barnum.”

Barnum and Floodwood battled in the first half as the game was close, with both teams making small runs. Barnum led by seven, 29-22 at halftime. The second half was again a battle as both teams made runs in the first ten minutes of the half. With eight minutes remaining it was a three point barrage by the Bombers which led to nine straight points and the Bombers never looked back.

The 9-0 run was done on three straight three pointers made by three different players. Caitlyn Rodgers, Katie Myhre, and Claire Rodgers all hit big shots as the Bombers went on to win their fifth straight game of the season. They also move to 3-0 in the Polar League standings with the win at home.

Jessica Newman paced the Bombers with 22 points on the night, Claire Rodgers added 15, Katie Myhre scored 12, Caitlyn Rodgers poured in 6, Claudia Turner added 5, Karianna Duesler and Jaiden Cofield closed with 2 points each. Molli Durovec led Floodwood with 22 points in the loss.

Barnum will be in action again on Friday night when they travel to Hinckley to face the Jaguars of Hinckley-Finlayson. The Polar Bears fall to 4-2 on the season, they are back in action again on Thursday at home against McGregor. That will close out the Polar Bears 2010 portion of the schedule as they are off until January.
