That firestorm of goals that hit the Proctor-Hermantown-Marshall girls hockey team in the second period last night was created by a fired up Eveleth-Gilbert squad that buzzed the Mirage net in the second period to the tune of five goals. The Golden Bears went on to pick up a convincing 7-1 win over a very good hockey team.

The first period was scoreless between the two clubs, but at the 1:33 mark of the second period the flood gates opened for the Golden Bears as Kayla Moe scored the first of five goals in the period. Moe’s goal was followed by a goal at 2:31 by Kayla Rosati, a goal at 4:01 from Amy Rice and Moe again on the power play at 10:44 to make it 4-0. PHM stemmed the rally for a brief instant when Abby Miner rammed in a goal at 16:16, but just 16 seconds later it was Emma Kishel thumping a shot past PHM goalie Courtney Simmons for a 5-1 edge after two periods for E-G.

The Golden Bears added another goal at 2:54 of the third period to go up 6-1 when Amanda Arbogast finished off a pretty play and then Kaylen Erchul ended the scoring for E-G with a magnificent shorthanded marker with 3:20 left in the third period.

The Golden Bears tossed 29 shots on Simmons, while Vicky Fossland made 22 saves on 23 shots for Eveleth-Gilbert.
