For the past six years, the Silver Bay Mariners have been a force in local softball circles. The Carlton Bulldogs have struggled during that same time. However, since Brooke Lee’s arrival as the head coach of the Bulldogs things have changed. On Thursday night, the Bulldogs picked up their biggest win in years with a 4-3 victory over the Mariners at Chub Lake Park. The Victory also snapped Silver Bay’s 10 game win streak.

Coach Lee however passed the credit on to the girls, stating to NSO, “These girls get better every game. I knew from the first days of practice that we had this potential, and we came out and proved ourselves tonight.”

With the game tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Mia Saunders, led off with a walk, then was bunted to second by Christine Eggert. Megan Nelson then doubled in the gap to left center field scoring Saunders with the game winning run.

McKenzie Belanger recorded two hits for the Bulldogs and Nelson added a double and 2 RBIs.

Saunders was also strong on the mound for the Bulldogs by throwing a complete game 5-hitter and fanning three Mariner batters.

Katherine Michalski led the Mariners with two hits.

The win was the eighth in a row for the Bulldogs who improve their record to 11-4 on the season.
