Using an outburst of four goals in the third period, the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Lumberjacks topped Buffalo 5-1 in Buffalo. With five goals from five different players the Jacks pick up their first win of the season.

After outshooting the Bison 25-11 after two periods, but having just one goal to show for it, the Jacks proved the old adage of “hard work pays off” to be true with four goals going in the net in the third period. The five goals nearly doubled the three goal output of the first two games of the season.

The only tally of the first two periods by either team was a power play goal by Adam Hanson at the 1:30 mark of the second with the assists going to Mark Savage and Karson Kuhlman.

Beau Michaud got the third period scoring barrage going when scored at the 5:42 mark with the assists going to Kuhlman and Savage. Michaud’s first varsity goal, which would prove to be the game winner, put the Jacks up 2-0 at the time. 20 seconds later the first line came through when Ben Michaud with assists from Nolan Meyer and Jack McFarlane put CEC up 3-0. Additional goals by Mark Savage and Jack McFarlane more than offset a Bison goal by Tony Thein, giving the Jacks a 5-1 win.

With the win, CEC is now 1-2 on the young season. The Lumberjacks will hit the ice again on Tuesday when they make the short trip to Proctor to take on an upstart Rails. Proctor is 3-0 on the season, scoring a total of 32 goals in the three wins.
