The Carlton Bulldogs were looking to win their tenth game of the season on Thursday
when they
played the Silver Bat Mariners. The Mariners came out strong and controlled the game from the start not allowing the Bulldogs the opportunity for that tenth win. Silver Bay knocked off Carlton by a score of 8-1.

“Their pitcher did a great job against us today,” head coach Scott Battaglia told Northland Sports Online. “We never could get anything started,” Battaglia said. “We didn’t hit the ball, we only had four hits and six base runners all day.”

The Bulldogs’ Caleb Hatfield would score the only run of the game. In the third inning he would single, steal second, advance to third on a single by Joey Broneak, and score when Broneak stole second. The throw went into center field allowing Hatfield to score from third base. Ben Rapp and Jordan Thompson would have the other two hits for the Bulldogs on Thursday.

Freshman Holden Panetti was the winning pitcher as the Mariners would win their second game of the season. They improve to 2-6 on the season and host Tower Sudan Friday in Silver Bay. The Bulldogs fall to 9-6 on the season and play again Friday at Chisholm.
