DULUTH – With boys hockey season just around the corner, the Lake Superior Conference held its annual kickoff jamboree, playing a series of 15 minute mini-games at the Heritage Center in Duluth on Tuesday Evening.

The Hermantown Hawks worked for a tie against a combined Denfeld-Central team. Hermantown finished strong, netting a 3-1 win over Superior and a 3-0 shutout of the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Lumberjacks.

The Jacks looked strong early opening play with a 2-1 win over Superior and a 3-0 shutout of Denfeld/Central despite missing three starters due to illness and injuries. In the final game of the evening the Jacks took a two and ten penalty which seemed to put the Jacks on their heels, giving up a power play goal and a shorthanded goal in less than a minute along with an even strength goal with 41 second left in the contest.

Other teams participation were Ashland, Marshall, Proctor, and Two Harbors.

CEC and Proctor open the season on November 30, CEC is at home against Grand Rapids while Proctor travels to Two Harbors. Hermantown hosts Sauk Rapids-Rice on Dec 3 to open their season. Another NSO area team the Moose Lake Area Rebels open up on the road at Eveleth-Gilbert on Dec 2.
