Duluth Marshall jumped out to a quick lead and then held on to their early momentum as the Hilltoppers finished with a 3-1 victory in girls soccer of Cloquet-Carlton on Tuesday night in Duluth.

Just 11 minutes into the game the Hilltoppers got a goal from Hannah Carpenter with an assist from Alli McKenna to make the score 1-0. Eight minutes later it was McKenna scoring from Megan Coughlan to push the Topper lead to 2-0.

The Lumberjacks responded with a goal in the 34th minute by Brittney Bushman with an assist to Mikayla Baker pulling CC to within 2-1 at the end of the first half.

Unfortunately for CC the Hilltoppers scored the only goal of the second half when Kelly Alworth scored in the 62nd minute with Coughlan chipping in with an assist making the final 3-1.

CC goalie Kia Peterson made 10 saves on 13 shots, while Hilltopper goalie Anna Thickens made 14 saves on 15 shots by the Lumberjacks.
