The Moose Lake Willow River boy’s baseball team rebounded with a win over McGregor to get back in it after a heart breaking loss to Two Harbors. The Rebels defeated the Mercuries by a score of 5-2.

“It was nice to get the win against a real good pitcher,” head coach Lyle Halverson told Northland Sports Online. “The weather was perfect. We dodged the rain and we came away with a very big conference win…We had some big clutch hits that put us in a position to win and that’s exactly what we did,” Halverson mentioned. The Rebels would come away with the three run win.

The Rebels got to McGregor pitcher Mike Tast in the third inning as Trevor Nummela came up with a huge two out, two run double which put the Rebels in front for good at 3-1, breaking a 1-1 tie. The Rebels would add to the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after McGregor picked up a solo run in the top of the inning.

The Rebels improve to 7-2 on the season. They will play the Barnum Bombers on Thursday in Barnum. This weekend the Rebels are in a four-team tournament in Hinckley. The other teams include Hinckley-Finlayson, Crosby Ironton, and Aitkin. The Mercuries fall to 4-7 on the season and they will host Esko on Thursday afternoon.
