The Barnum Bombers opened the Section 5A volleyball playoffs with a win at home over the Cromwell Cardinals by a 3-0 margin. These two schools battled earlier this season with the Bombers winning in four games. The scores Thursday night were 25-17, 25-16, and 25-11. The win moves the Barnum into the sub section semi-finals Friday night against the number one seed East Central Eagles.

Jessica Newman led the Bombers Thursday night with 9 kills, 10 ace serves, 16 digs and she was 19-21 serving on the night. Karianna Duesler finished with 3 kills, 15 set assists and 4 digs in the victory. Allainie Hanek-Siltanen had 7 kills for Barnum.

Courtney Hunter added 8 digs on the night for the Bombers, Jenna Shanda had 5 ace serves in the Bomber win, and Kelsey Wickstrom was a perfect 100% serving for Barnum. Daron Mainville paced Barnum with 5 blocks and MJ Anderson was also perfect serving for the Bombers.

Barnum will look to upset the number seed east Central on Friday night. The Bombers and the Eagles met twice this season with East Central winning both match-ups. They defeated Barnum 2-1 in the Barnum Invitational in mid September, and the Eagles also swept Barnum 3-0 in the beginning of October.
