The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels opened up the section 7AA footballs playoffs with an impressive 52-6 win over the Tigers of Rush City. The win keeps the Rebels perfect on the season as they continue on their quest to return to the state football playoffs and make another run at the state title.

Holden Olson rushed for three first half touchdowns in the win at Willow River Tuesday night. Olson had touchdown runs of 15, 26, and 12 yards. Olson also scored twice on two point conversions in the first half as he accounted for 22 points himself on the night.

With Tuesday’s weather playing a big part in the game it was the Rebels continuing to run the ball, gaining huge chunks of yardage on each carry. The Rebels finished the night with 409 yards rushing on 29 carries. The Rebels averaged over 14 yards per carry on the game. The Rebels were also very opportunistic as the forced five Tiger turnovers.

Austin Lanoue recovered three fumbles in the Rebels win. Tyler Huso also recovered a Tiger fumble and Josh Cisar intercepted a Tiger pass. Lanoue and Spencer Clough each had six tackles to lead the defense, Taylor Mattison added five tackles, and Olson ended with four.

Chris Gassert added two touchdown runs on the night, he scored on a 15 yard run in the first quarter, and he also added the first of the second half with a 41 yard touchdown run. Josh Cisar scored on an 81 yard touchdown run, and rounding out the Rebel scoring was Jacob Disterhaupt who scored the last Rebel touchdown of the game on a 15 yard run.

The Rebels improve to 9-0 on the season and will host Deer River on Saturday at 2:00 PM. The Warriors defeated Hinckley-Finlayson by a score of 56-0 on Tuesday night. The Rebels defeated Deer River earlier this season by a score of 47-0.
