Rebels Back In Section Finals

The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels advanced to the section finals in class 7AA for the seventh straight season as the Rebels defeated the Deer River Warriors Saturday afternoon in Willow River. The Rebels got off to a slow start but rebounded fast as the Rebels shutout the Warriors by a final score of 37-0.


The first quarter ended scoreless as Deer River implemented some new looks to show the Rebels, but Moose Lake-Willow River got rolling in the second quarter as Adam Johnsen scored on a 19 yard touchdown run, Michael Bennett kicked the extra point and the Rebels led 7-0. The Rebels scored again as Chris Gassert scored on a 3 yard touchdown run and with the Bennett kick the Rebels led 14-0 at half.


The second half saw the Rebels add their third touchdown of the game as Nick Tokar connected on a 19 yard touchdown pass to Johnsen and with the extra point it was a 21-0 lead for the Rebels. The Rebels added two more points on a safety to close out the scoring in the third quarter and the Rebels led 23-0 after three quarters.


Adam Johnsen scored his third touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter, scoring on a 10 yard touchdown run. Moose Lake-Willow River added one more score when Tokar ran it in from two yards out to make the score 37-0 and that’s the way the game would end.


The Rebels rushed for 314 yards on 44 carries on the day. Nick Tokar finished 5-7 passing for 65 yards and a touchdown. The Rebels did have a serious blow to their offense as Holden Olson fractured his humorous which will require surgery which will happen on Monday morning.


The Rebels will face Braham on Thursday night from Public School Stadium at 7:00 pm. The Braham Bombers knocked of the Esko Eskomos Saturday afternoon in Braham. The Bombers defeated Esko 51-18.
